Dr. Simon Chan started his first organ lesson with Dr. Siu-ling CHIU through participating in the Pipe Organ Education Series, a 6-month training program on fundamental organ playing, at Hong Kong Cultural Centre in 2000. He then obtained a diploma in Organ Performance from the Associate Board of Royal School of Music in 2003. Simon graduated with a first class honor degree of the Bachelor of Arts in Organ Performance at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2005. Two years later, he was awarded the Master degree in Organ Performance at Texas Christian University under the guidance of Dr. Joseph Butler. In 2013, he was awarded Doctor of Musical Arts in organ performance at the University of Kansas under the guidance of Dr. Michael Bauer.
Dr. Chan was a semi-finalist in the 2011 Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition in Kaliningrad, Russia, a quarter-finalist in the 2011 Canadian International Organ Competition in Montréal, Canada, a finalist in the 2012 Arthur Poister Organ Competition in Syracuse, the United States, a second-prize winner in the 2012 Fort Wayne National Organ Playing Competition in Fort Wayne, the United States and one of the fifteen official competitors in the 2012 International Organ Competition Musashino-Tokyo in Tokyo, Japan.
Dr. Chan is now the organ instructor in the Hong Kong Baptist University, a lecturer in the University of Macau (Teaching Music History and Musicianship), and in Alliance Bible Seminary. He is also the organ, music theory and music theory instructor in Hong Kong Sacred School of Music and Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary.
